Pete Leary Camp Scholarship Fund
Shelter Neck Summer UU Youth Camps
3747 Croomsbridge Road, Burgaw, NC

On December 23, 2014 our dear friend, Pete Leary of UUFR in Raleigh passed away. Since then, the Universalist Convention of North Carolina, Inc has received many contributions in Pete's memory. At the last meeting of the Executive Board, we decided to use these and any future donations to provide scholarships to the
Shelter Neck Summer Youth Camps

Pete was a printer, singer-songwriter, devoted UU, past president and longtime trustee of the UCONCI board, Shelter Neck Committee past chair, SWIMM Board member, long time SUUSI participant, and a past officer in the NC Songwriter's Guild. It was Pete Leary who went around the country singing to raise the money needed to restore the Shelter Neck UU Camp buildings after the flood damage from Hurricane Floyd. He raised close to $65,000  toward this restoration, and then supervised or performed much of the work. For his devotion, he received the regional UU District's honor of "Unsung Hero". Pete will be remembered for his generosity, his talent, and his sense of humor. His death of a heart attack was sudden and unexpected.
